What are the expectations for implementation?

The revised PreK-8 Maryland College and Career Ready Standard for Mathematics will be implemented in SY 2026-2027.

Implementation of the revised standards is designed to be clear, supported, and manageable. Educators can expect guidance and resources at each stage of the transition.

This standards course provides a structured introduction to the revised expectations and is one of several supports available to help educators build clarity and confidence as they begin working with the updated standards.

Educators can also expect ongoing support from district mathematics leaders, who have been collaborating statewide to review the revisions, identify potential gaps, and strengthen alignment across instructional materials. District teams will help interpret the standards, guide HQIM adjustments, and support collaborative planning.

As implementation begins, educators are encouraged to:

Build an understanding of the structure, intent, and progression of the revised standards
Explore how expectations connect within and across grade levels
Use the Numeracy Development Framework and Standards Companion Guides to support instructional planning
Review instructional materials with district guidance to ensure alignment
Collaborate with colleagues to promote coherence across classrooms
