Make the Most of Tummy Time

These simple tips can help you integrate Tummy Time for infants during child care hours;

Start with short periods of Tummy Time when infants are very young.
Keep the first sessions of tummy time brief and gradually lengthen them.
Short sessions are best in the beginning - 1 - 2 minutes.
Gradually build to a total of 30 minutes a day.
Practice tummy time when the baby is fed, changed, rested from a nap, and happy.
Do tummy time on a low, safe surface
Use a firm, clean floor. Place a rolled towel under the baby's arms for extra support.
Never place an infant on a soft or high surface like a mattress or sofa, pillows bouncy, soft surface or other soft infant toys or rest devices.
Join the fun by getting on the floor facing the baby. Talk or sing softly. Your voice stimulates the baby's brain and interest.
Bring toys for infants to practice reaching. Place toys in a circle around the infant to add interest and encourage looking around.
Tummy time is important, and some babies just need a little extra time to get used to it. Don't give up!
Be sure infants are awake and supervised at all times. Remember to place infants on their backs if they fall asleep
Always stay with the baby during tummy time.

Please note: Use of infant stationary equipment (e.g., exersaucers, infant seats, molded seats) should be avoided or used for no more than 15 minutes while a child is in care.
